Coach Loyd brings six years of professional football playing experience as well as a championship coaching resume to DeBartolo Sports University.
Coach Mike Loyd brings a pedigree to DeBartolo Sports University few can match. As a head football coach, Loyd has sent over seventy-five players onto the Division 1 level, including the 2010 NFL 1st round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals Jermaine Gresham (University of Oklahoma).
Coach Loyd's college playing career at the quarterback position spanned the University of Kansas and Tulsa. From there, he went on to play six years of professional football with the St. Louis Rams (NFL), Edmonton Eskimos (CFL), Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL), and Oklahoma Outlaws (USFL).
Transitioning to a coaching career has brought an incredible amount of success at both the collegiate and high school levels. As the Head Coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, he amassed a 44-7 record, four national semi-final appearances, and three championship game appearances that included one national title. He time spent with Ardmore High School in Oklahoma saw a streak of eight consecutive playoff berths where they reached the state semi-finals three times, achieving a 67-27 record overall.
In 2008, Coach Loyd was hired to be the Head Coach of Ponte Vedra High School in Jacksonville and oversaw the programs inaguaral football season. In the first two years of the program they've gone 9-12 and transitioned from an Independent in 2009 to the tough Division 3-3A for the 2010 season.
